Loads of Liverpool fans have been reacting to some comments by Jordan Pickford, as the Everton stopper had his say on the influx of ball-playing goalkeepers.

Alisson Becker has made superb start to life at Liverpool, but the Brazilian goalkeeper was caught out last weekend against Leicester.

The impressive 25 year-old has conceded just one goal so far, and did make a crucial save earlier in the game at the King Power Stadium, but his attempt at a Cruyff turn went badly wrong when Kelechi Iheanacho stole the ball and set up Rachid Ghezzal.

Alisson had drawn praise for his audacious chip over a Brighton attacker the previous weekend, and Pickford has weighed in on the craze for ball-playing keepers.

“I try not to [do tricks] because I don’t want to be caught with the ball. It’s a risk. If it comes off, it looks good and if it doesn’t…” the England number one says as he shakes his head.

“It’s a style of play and I think that’s the way Liverpool want to play. But it’s going to happen.

“Look at Ederson at Man City. Guardiola puts a lot of faith in him but mistakes happen all over the pitch. It’s just that the goalkeeper’s mistake is always a crucial one.

“I’m going to try not to put myself in that position to make those mistakes. You don’t want to get too comfortable and start trying to be a No 10.”

While Pickford doesn’t directly mention Alisson, Liverpool fans are bashing his comments, suspecting his reluctance to play around with the ball is due to a lack of ability as opposed to a tactical decision.
